Till not we talked about concepts related to business consultancy.Still a theory lesson can never create a good business analyst.It is my opinion and you may not agree with me.Feel free to post me your thoughts as well.So that we all can learn from each others views and thoughts.
NOTE : I am specifically talking about business analysts in the IT industry and who needs to deliver a system/application as the output to the client.
Typical Business Analysts from my country are from a management background and very less have a at least a little touch in IT.It is really useful a Business Analysts who work in the IT industry have the IT touch.Thus I must say that there are plenty of examples i have to share with you who did never have any IT background but today success cases in the industry.
Let me take this small example.Developers please do not get angry with me.Thus this is what happen in almost every where.
A Business Analyst go to the client site and get back to the office.During the requirement walk through sessions the business analyst try to explain the requirement and suddenly a developer speaks out and say "Look here this is technically not possible" then what should be your respond.
Ideally if you have some IT background you could analyse what he/she say and reply with a suggestion.
Else never agree to all the developers say.People are very good at passing balls to each others.You always need to cover your self as well.In one side of you is the client and the other is your company management.So better try provide a quality service to the client by bringing good income as well.For that be analytic and logical.Try to find the best and also suggest the best.Never take all what the client say or the developer say.
Client bring money. So we need to assure customer satisfaction and in the vey same place technology has limitations so remember that as well when you are doing requirement gathering .

I agreed all of your points plus need add BAs need to have some kind of cutting edge technical knowledge. It will help them to propose fine solution to client side as well as developer side
