What is Business Analysis and who is Business Analyst?


The term Business Analysis is not just identifying business needs and determining solutions to business problems. It has much more depth in that work.So ideally

Business Analysis is the practice of enabling change in an organizational context, by defining needs and recommending solutions that deliver value to stakeholders. The set of tasks and techniques that are used to perform business analysis are defined in A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK®Guide).  

Business annalist is mainly involved in the business analysis.business analyst  an agent of change.

 Further Business Analysis is a disciplined approach for introducing and managing change to organizations, whether they are for-profit businesses, governments, or non-profits.

Business analyst is responsible in understanding the business need as well as the market change and providing consultancy in order to help the users to take correct and timely decisions.Business analyst must not gather requirements but elicit the requirements to provide a a good analysis to the client.

So to provide correct piece of consultancy the business analyst must perform the  below,

    Conducting feasibility studies/market analysis
    Identifying new business opportunities
    Scoping and defining new business opportunities
    Preparing the business case
    Conducting the initial risk assessment
